Washington, D.C., Feb. — The Washington Wizards have converted center Tristan Vukcevic’s two-way agreement into a three-year, $9 million standard NBA contract, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. The final season of the new deal includes a team option.
With only 13 players on standard contracts and guard Alondes Williams’ 10-day deal set to expire Wednesday, the Wizards did not need to open a roster spot to finalize Vukcevic’s promotion.
Washington immediately filled the vacant two-way position by signing wing Leaky Black, Charania added.
Vukcevic nearing two-way limit
Selected in the second round of the 2023 draft, Vukcevic has appeared in 35 games this season, starting five. He is averaging 7.9 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 0.7 blocks in 12.3 minutes. The move comes with nine games remaining before he would have reached the 50-game cap for two-way players.
The 7-foot center initially joined the Wizards on a standard rookie contract. After Washington declined his 2024-25 team option, he re-signed on a two-way deal in the summer of 2024 and remained on a two-way contract entering this season.
Black returns to NBA roster
Black, undrafted out of North Carolina in 2023, spent his first season on a two-way contract with the Charlotte Hornets, making 26 NBA appearances and averaging 2.7 points and 1.8 rebounds in 10.9 minutes. He later joined the Capital City Go-Go, Washington’s G League affiliate, where he posted 7.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.2 steals over 44 games last season.
The 6-foot-6 wing took part in Wizards training camp last fall but was waived in mid-October. Back with the Go-Go, he has averaged 10.4 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.8 steals in 35.2 minutes across 35 games this year.
The Wizards now have 14 players on standard contracts, plus Williams on his expiring 10-day, and three two-way slots filled.
