The Washington Wizards sent the youngest starting lineup on record to the court Tuesday night in Charlotte, according to Elias Sports Bureau. The five-man unit—rookie Will Riley, Alex Sarr, Kyshawn George, Tre Johnson and Bub Carrington—averaged just 20.64 years of age, marking the lowest figure since the NBA began tracking starters in the 1970-71 season.
Washington turned to the youth-heavy group after ruling out seven players. Forward Khris Middleton, listed as questionable a day earlier, was among those sidelined, forcing head coach Wes Unseld Jr. to lean entirely on first-year and second-year talent.
The game came with the Wizards sitting at 10-33, a record that underscores the organization’s rebuild and emphasis on player development. Additional reinforcement could arrive once guard Trae Young completes rehab on a sprained right knee and bruised quadriceps, but his return timetable remains unclear.
