The Washington Wizards are reportedly evaluating a trade pursuit for Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young, according to Marc Stein of The Stein Line.

Stein described Washington’s interest as “legitimate,” noting that any potential package would likely revolve around veteran guard CJ McCollum and his expiring contract. While the discussions have not progressed to formal negotiations, the report indicates the Wizards would not explore scenarios involving a maximum-salary player unless they were seriously considering a deal.

Young’s status in Atlanta has grown increasingly uncertain. ESPN’s Marc J. Spears recently reported that the four-time All-Star is open to relocation, a significant development for a franchise that has spent months examining its long-term direction. League sources told Hoops Wire that the Hawks began gauging Young’s market value as early as last offseason after contract extension talks stalled.

On the floor, results have been mixed. Young is averaging 19.3 points and 8.9 assists, but Atlanta owns a 2–8 record in games he has played. The 25-year-old will earn $45.9 million this season and holds a $48.9 million player option for 2026-27, which he could decline to become an unrestricted free agent. His contract does not include a no-trade clause.

The Hawks have also examined larger possibilities, including internal discussions centered on Anthony Davis, according to league sources. However, multiple reports, including one from Stein, indicate the Dallas Mavericks have no interest in acquiring Young.

For now, no agreement appears imminent, but the Wizards’ emergence as a potential suitor keeps Young’s name at the center of the NBA’s trade rumor mill.
