Wizards GM Believes Anthony Davis Will Suit Up Before Season Ends

Washington Wizards general manager Will Dawkins said Sunday he expects newly acquired forward Anthony Davis to appear in a game before the 2025-26 season concludes, reversing earlier reports that the eight-time All-Star would miss the remainder of the campaign.

Speaking to reporters, Dawkins explained that no definitive timetable will be set until after the NBA All-Star break. Davis, dealing with hand and groin injuries, will return to Dallas—where he was traded from last week—to continue rehabilitation with his personal medical team, accompanied by Wizards staff members.

“The plan is for him to finish his rehab in Dallas,” Dawkins said. “He’ll have a key doctor’s visit during All-Star weekend, and when that’s complete, he’ll come back to D.C. and join the team.”

Long-Term Vision With Davis and Young

Dawkins added that the organization views Davis and fellow recent acquisition Trae Young as central pieces for a more competitive roster next season. He highlighted Davis’s ability to draw double teams on offense and anchor the defense alongside rookie center Alex Sarr.

“When you put Anthony at the four and Alex at the five, plus our young wings like Bilal Coulibaly, Kyshawn George, and Jamir Watkins, we get the length and athleticism we’ve been looking for,” Dawkins said.

Update on Trae Young’s Recovery

Young, sidelined since his arrival from Atlanta with a right knee sprain and quad contusion, will also be re-evaluated during the All-Star break. Dawkins noted the four-time All-Star has progressed to individual on-court work and limited two-on-two drills, calling his recovery “positive.”

The Wizards sit outside the playoff picture but hope both stars can contribute before the offseason to accelerate the team’s development.
