The Washington Wizards fast-tracked their roster overhaul by acquiring guards Trae Young in January and forward-center Anthony Davis in February. Both stars remain sidelined with injuries, yet their arrival has already shifted expectations inside Capital One Arena.
“We’re already talking about the playoffs, how different it will be,” rookie forward Bilal Coulibaly told The Athletic. “We were talking about it with Trae and AD this morning. They’re just talking to us a lot about all that stuff. We’ve never been there, so we don’t know what it looks like. But we can’t wait.”
League Scouts Remain Skeptical
Outside the organization, doubts persist about whether two marquee names can solve Washington’s longstanding problems, particularly on the defensive end.
“Trae’s defense is of paramount concern,” one scout said. “He’s coming to a team that’s horrific defensively by the numbers. You can’t be that bad defensively and think you’re just going to get better overnight.”
The same evaluator pointed to Davis’s injury history, noting, “AD’s not the AD he was three, five or seven years ago.”
Team executives believe the combined star power of Young and Davis can accelerate the franchise’s timeline, but much will depend on their health and fit once they finally take the court.
