The Washington Wizards have secured another season with six members of their young core, picking up their team options for the 2026-27 campaign, according to The Athletic’s Josh Robbins.
The club exercised options on Alex Sarr, Bilal Coulibaly, Cam Whitmore, Bub Carrington, AJ Johnson, and Kyshawn George. The six contracts combine for roughly $38.3 million in guaranteed salary for 2026-27.
Salaries for 2026-27
Sarr, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 draft, tops the list at $12.3 million. Coulibaly’s fourth-year option is worth $9.2 million, while Whitmore will earn $5.5 million. Carrington’s figure is $4.9 million, Johnson’s is $3.2 million, and George’s is $3.1 million.
Current Production
Four of the six are already rotation pieces. George is averaging 20.3 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 5.0 assists while shooting 53.8 percent from three-point range. Sarr follows with 19.5 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks per outing. Whitmore and Carrington have carved out steady roles, whereas Coulibaly has not yet played this season as he rehabs from offseason thumb surgery. Johnson, acquired in last year’s Khris Middleton–Kyle Kuzma deal, has appeared only in limited minutes.
Looking Ahead
Coulibaly and Whitmore will become eligible for rookie-scale extensions in July 2026. If deals are not reached, both could enter restricted free agency in 2027. Washington will face new option decisions on Sarr, Carrington, Johnson, and George next fall, when fourth-year choices for the 2027-28 season come due.
