Utah Jazz head coach Will Hardy offered a detailed look at his expectations for Ace Bailey after the No. 5 overall pick’s brief showing in Las Vegas Summer League.
Speaking on August 17, 2025, Hardy said the 19-year-old wing’s first priority is establishing a consistent daily schedule. “The NBA is a lot,” Hardy noted. “The number of appearances is far more than he’s used to. It’s going to be about him finding his routine, because the routine saves you during the season.”
Summer Work Continues in Salt Lake City
According to Hardy, most of Utah’s young roster has already spent significant time training in Salt Lake City this summer and will remain there for the next two weeks. After a short Labor Day break, the full group is expected to hold four workout sessions per week throughout September.
On-Court Focus Areas
Although Bailey appeared in only two Summer League games, Hardy saw encouraging signs. “Ace was really active. He’s a good cutter and can operate in off-ball screens,” the coach said. Defensively, Hardy wants Bailey to maximize his wingspan while he adds strength: “Using his length is a real strength of his right now. That’s how he can survive on the defensive end.”
Beyond his scoring upside, Bailey impressed the staff with his energy on the glass, an attribute Hardy believes could help the rookie secure minutes while he learns the complexities of NBA schemes.
