Andrew Wiggins says an uninterrupted summer in South Florida has finally made Miami feel like home. After arriving from Golden State at last season’s trade deadline and fighting through minor injuries, the forward used the offseason to settle in, bring his family to town and spend “almost every day” at the Heat’s facility.

“Just getting a summer under my belt, being with the team and coaches, any chance to build up that chemistry,” Wiggins told the Miami Herald.

The early work was evident in Miami’s preseason opener against Orlando, where Wiggins scored 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting in 12 minutes. Head coach Erik Spoelstra said he is pleased with the 29-year-old’s conditioning and views the coming season as an opportunity for Wiggins to make a two-way impact.

Johnson Takes Full Control in San Antonio

Mitch Johnson moves into the 2025-26 campaign as the Spurs’ permanent head coach after serving as acting coach for most of last year. Veteran forward Harrison Barnes said the 2024-25 squad focused on preserving the structure left by Gregg Popovich, but this season Johnson is free to install his own approach.

“He can say, ‘I have full ownership of the things that are going on,’” Barnes told the San Antonio Express-News.

Thunder Focus on Internal Growth, Williams Recovering

Oklahoma City returns nearly its entire championship roster, shifting the emphasis of training camp toward individual development. Jalen Williams, 23, already an All-Star and All-NBA Third Team selection, spent the summer rehabbing torn wrist ligaments and undergoing post-playoff surgery.

“It was a blessing in disguise,” Williams said to SI.com. “It allowed me to take care of my body and not go full throttle … It actually made me take a break, which was nice.”

The Thunder expect Williams, last season’s No. 2 scorer, to be fully cleared as camp progresses.
