The New York Knicks are evaluating several veteran free agents after expressing interest in guard Malik Beasley, according to multiple reports released on August 26, 2025.
James Edwards III of The Athletic noted that New York could still pursue Beasley but may shift its focus to other candidates who fit a minimum-salary slot. Two of those possibilities, Landry Shamet and Delon Wright, suited up for the Knicks last season under former head coach Tom Thibodeau. While Shamet offers outside shooting, the club recently secured another scoring guard, Jordan Clarkson, after his release from Utah, potentially reducing the need for an additional shooting-guard option. Wright, a true point guard, is viewed as a more natural complement to starter Jalen Brunson and rookie Tyler Kolek.
Edwards also listed Alec Burks, Monte Morris, Ben Simmons, Seth Curry, and Malcolm Brogdon as players who could be approached for the open roster spot on a veteran-minimum deal.
Kristian Winfield of the New York Daily News argued that Shamet or Wright would be the most practical signings because of their familiarity with the organization. Winfield described either guard as a low-maintenance addition who could become a reliable piece in critical postseason moments.
As for the team’s younger talent, Edwards projected that only one member of the trio comprising Kolek, Pacome Dadiet, and Ariel Hukporti is likely to secure a rotation role under new head coach Mike Brown. The Knicks already have nine established veterans in place, limiting opportunities for rookies and sophomores.
