Golden State appears set to ride out the remainder of the season without a headline-grabbing trade despite losing Jimmy Butler to a season-ending ACL tear, according to a report from Grant Afseth of the Dallas Hoops Journal.
Team sources told Afseth that the Warriors are evaluating modest roster tweaks but are not shopping Butler and have no plans to pursue Lakers star Anthony Davis before the Feb. 5 trade deadline. General manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. reiterated that stance publicly, saying he does not “envision” moving Butler and expects the veteran to be a key contributor once healthy next year.
Butler’s contract, which carries substantial salary this season and next, further complicates any trade scenario. League insiders described the situation as markedly different from past injury-related deals, noting that Golden State is focused on long-term stability rather than a short-term exit.
As for Davis, multiple executives told Afseth the Warriors have not shown serious interest. The combination of salary, long-term commitment and timing was cited as a poor fit for Golden State’s current plans.
Forward Jonathan Kuminga continues to draw attention around the league, with the Mavericks, Kings and Lakers monitoring his availability. Sources said the 21-year-old has remained professional and engaged during stretches of limited playing time, and his recent performances have only highlighted his upside.
For now, the Warriors are expected to rely on internal development and smaller roster adjustments as they navigate the rest of the campaign without Butler.
