The Golden State Warriors announced Thursday that guard De’Anthony Melton will be re-evaluated in four weeks as he continues to work back from a torn left ACL suffered last season.
Head coach Steve Kerr told reporters the organization is aiming for the 27-year-old to return “sometime in the next couple of months,” suggesting a best-case scenario of a November comeback. The timetable guarantees Melton will miss at least the first week of the regular season and likely a longer stretch.
Melton originally joined Golden State on a one-year, $12.8 million contract during the 2024 offseason. He managed only six appearances before tearing the ligament on Nov. 12. The former second-round pick also dealt with a significant back issue in 2023-24, limiting him to just 14 total regular-season and playoff games since January 2024. Given that history, the Warriors intend to move cautiously with his ramp-up.
Earlier Thursday, the guard finalized a new two-year contract at the league minimum, including a player option for 2026-27. The agreement had been in the works for months and became official once Jonathan Kuminga’s restricted-free-agency negotiations clarified the team’s cap picture.
While Melton remains sidelined, Brandin Podziemski, Gary Payton II, Buddy Hield and Moses Moody are expected to compete for expanded backcourt minutes.
