Golden State forward Al Horford will be sidelined for a minimum of one week because of irritation in his right sciatic nerve, according to Monte Poole of NBC Sports Bay Area.
ESPN’s Anthony Slater reported that Horford is expected to miss the Warriors’ next three games: Monday against the Utah Jazz, Wednesday versus the Houston Rockets and Saturday against the New Orleans Pelicans.
The 37-year-old veteran has been working in a reserve role this season, posting the lowest averages of his career in minutes, points, rebounds and assists. His three-point shooting has also dipped compared with the past decade, a trend attributed to both age and reduced playing time.
The sciatic issue is similar to the one that kept LeBron James out of the Los Angeles Lakers’ first 14 games, though Golden State does not believe Horford’s condition is as severe.
The Warriors, now 9–9 after starting the season 4–1, are already thin in the frontcourt. Jonathan Kuminga remains out with knee tendinitis, and Draymond Green is listed as questionable because of a foot sprain. Horford’s absence further tests a lineup trying to regain momentum following three consecutive losses.
