Golden State head coach Steve Kerr said he intends to give another look to the new starting five that opened Wednesday’s preseason win over Portland — Al Horford, Stephen Curry, Moses Moody, Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green — before the exhibition schedule ends.

“That could be a really powerful combo,” Kerr told reporters, noting that video review eased his initial concerns about first-half turnovers and lapses in focus. The group logged a little more than seven minutes together, offering the size Kerr wants while still spreading the floor with Horford’s three-point range. All five veterans sat out the second half.

Curry liked the early chemistry. “I just like the vibe and the intentionality that we’re all coming with,” the guard said, adding that a strong start to the season is a priority.

Different Look vs. Lakers

The same unit will not take the floor Sunday against the Lakers. Kerr said Butler has an excused personal absence, while Curry and Horford will rest. Green will start alongside Brandin Podziemski, Buddy Hield, Jonathan Kuminga and Quinten Post, according to ESPN’s Anthony Slater.

Moody Sidelined for MRI

Moody underwent an MRI on Saturday after experiencing calf discomfort. Kerr characterized the move as precautionary and said the injury is believed to be minor, Slater reported.

Kuminga, Podziemski Chase Bigger Roles

Forward Jonathan Kuminga and rookie guard Brandin Podziemski arrive at training camp from vastly different backgrounds — Kuminga from the Congo, Podziemski from the American Midwest — yet both are competing for expanded minutes. Observers within the organization describe Kuminga as calm and composed, while Podziemski’s outgoing personality reflects years of fighting for recognition against elite peers.
