Golden State guard Stephen Curry is working toward a return in Sunday’s matchup with the Houston Rockets, according to The Athletic’s Sam Amick and Nick Friedell.

The two-time MVP has been sidelined since January 30 with patellofemoral pain syndrome in his right knee, often referred to as runner’s knee. On Tuesday he completed his first full practice in roughly two months and was scheduled for five-on-five scrimmaging afterward. If his progress continues, the tentative plan is to activate him Sunday.

“He went through a full practice, but it was very light. We didn’t do anything live,” head coach Steve Kerr said.

A team source later told Amick and Friedell that Curry responded well to the scrimmage, though his condition will be reviewed daily.

Before the injury, the 36-year-old had appeared in 39 games, averaging 27.2 points and 4.8 assists across 31.8 minutes.

Golden State faces a back-to-back set on Wednesday and Thursday. Following Sunday’s contest, only four regular-season games remain. The Warriors enter play in 10th place in the Western Conference, holding the final play-in slot, 1.5 games behind Portland and three back of the LA Clippers.

Forward Gui Santos said Curry’s presence in practice was a lift for the roster. “It’s amazing, man,” Santos noted. “Just to have him out there with us, it’s always great. We have a lot more confidence when we have a guy like Steph on the court. There’s no doubt about it.”
