The Golden State Warriors are reluctant to add Buddy Hield or Moses Moody to any sign-and-trade package involving forward Jonathan Kuminga, league sources told The Athletic’s Sam Amick.
Amick reported on August 4, 2025, that draft-pick protections are not the only sticking point in talks with potential partners. The Sacramento Kings and Phoenix Suns have expressed interest, yet Golden State has dismissed proposals it considers unfavorable.
Kuminga, 22, is a restricted free agent, but no team currently holds the cap space required to extend him an offer sheet. Barring a late breakthrough, the seventh overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft is expected to open the 2025-26 season with the Warriors, likely on a one-year qualifying offer.
Recent Performance
The 6-foot-7 wing averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists across 47 games last season, shooting 45.4 percent from the field, 30.5 percent from three-point range and 66.8 percent at the free-throw line. Over four seasons in the Bay Area, he has produced career averages of 12.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists.
Sources also indicated that Kuminga’s relationship with head coach Steve Kerr remains strained. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania and Anthony Slater, the forward believes the organization has hampered his development.

Team Outlook
Golden State exited the 2025 playoffs in the second round, falling to the Minnesota Timberwolves in five games after a seven-game series win over the Houston Rockets. Should Kuminga play out the qualifying offer, he would enter unrestricted free agency in the summer of 2026, free to sign with any team without the Warriors’ right to match.
