DALLAS — Golden State guard Moses Moody was removed from the court on a stretcher after sustaining a non-contact injury to his left knee late in overtime of the Warriors’ 137-131 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on March 24.

The play unfolded with 18.6 seconds remaining when Moody stripped Mavericks rookie Cooper Flagg near midcourt and broke free for what appeared to be a routine dunk. As he planted under the basket, his knee gave way and he collapsed to the floor. Officials allowed play to continue briefly before stopping the game, and medical personnel quickly surrounded the 24-year-old guard.

The arena fell silent while trainers stabilized Moody’s leg and summoned a stretcher. He was wheeled off to the locker room as teammates and staff looked on.

Sports medical analyst Dr. David J. Chao posted video of the sequence on social media, calling the injury “consistent with a left patellar tendon rupture” and projecting a lengthy recovery. The Warriors have not announced an official diagnosis or timetable.

Moody had just returned after missing 10 games with a sprained wrist and was enjoying one of his best outings of the season, finishing with 23 points and three steals.

“We don’t know what it is, but it sure looked bad,” head coach Steve Kerr told reporters, according to ESPN’s Anthony Slater.

Golden State is already without Jimmy Butler and is still awaiting the return of Stephen Curry, compounding the team’s injury concerns as the regular season winds down.
