Golden State swingman Moses Moody was carried off the court on a stretcher after injuring his left leg with 1:12 remaining in overtime of Monday night’s 109-105 road win against Dallas.
The mishap occurred when the 23-year-old stole the ball from rookie Cooper Flagg and sped toward the rim for a potential breakaway dunk. As he planted, Moody’s left leg appeared to give way, sending him to the floor clutching his knee. NBC Sports Bay Area cameras showed teammates and medical staff quickly summoning a stretcher.
Head coach Steve Kerr told reporters, “We don’t know what it is, but it sure looked bad.”
Moody underwent postgame X-rays and left the arena wearing a sizeable knee brace, according to The Athletic. No further details on the severity were provided.
Before the non-contact injury, Moody had delivered one of his best performances of the season, finishing with 23 points, three rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks in 34 minutes. The contest marked his return after a 10-game absence due to a right wrist sprain.
The former No. 14 pick in the 2021 draft has been a regular starter this season, appearing in 59 games (48 starts) and averaging 11.9 points and 3.3 rebounds in 25.5 minutes while shooting a career-best 40.2 percent from three-point range.
Golden State is effectively locked into the Western Conference play-in tournament and is attempting to climb back to the No. 8 seed for an extra chance to secure a postseason berth. The club is already without Jimmy Butler, sidelined since Jan. 19 with a torn right ACL, and Stephen Curry, out since Jan. 30 because of patellofemoral pain syndrome in his right knee.
No timetable for Moody’s return will be available until the team completes further testing.
