San Francisco — The Golden State Warriors and forward Jonathan Kuminga have ended their prolonged contract impasse, agreeing to a two-year deal worth $48.5 million as training camp opens, agent Aaron Turner told ESPN.

The agreement features a team option, giving Golden State the right to terminate and renegotiate the contract after the first season if it chooses. Negotiations between Turner and general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. began in July and extended into late September before the Warriors raised their offer by roughly $8 million within the two-year framework. The structure guarantees Kuminga about $15 million more than he would have earned under this season’s qualifying offer.

Kuminga, 20, turned down a three-year, $75 million proposal earlier in the process to maintain greater flexibility over his near-term future. Throughout talks, the Warriors refused to remove the team option, according to Turner.

Both parties understand that trade discussions could accelerate once Kuminga becomes eligible on Jan. 15, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported.
