Warriors Tell Mavericks Anthony Davis Talks Possible, But Core Pieces Off-Limits

The Golden State Warriors have not fully shut the door on trade discussions involving Dallas Mavericks center Anthony Davis, but team insiders insist the path to a deal is extremely narrow.
Reporting from The Athletic journalist Sam Amick indicates Golden State remains unwilling to include either Jimmy Butler or Draymond Green in any potential package. That firm stance, team sources say, all but eliminates a realistic way to acquire Davis.
League sources add that Dallas has shown interest in forward Jonathan Kuminga. Kuminga is set to earn about $22.5 million next season, far below Davis’s $54 million salary. With the Warriors pressing against the NBA’s second tax apron, matching salaries without sacrificing a core veteran appears virtually impossible.
According to Amick, preliminary contact was actually initiated by the Mavericks, suggesting Golden State was not actively pursuing Davis. While Davis has also been connected to the Atlanta Hawks, Dallas is not believed to be committed to dealing him at this stage.
For now, the conversations are described as exploratory, with the Warriors listening but not moving off their position regarding their top veterans.
