Warriors refuse to include Moody or Hield in Kuminga sign-and-trade talks
SLUG: warriors-kuminga-sign-and-trade-standoff

The Golden State Warriors have rejected the idea of attaching the contracts of either Moses Moody or Buddy Hield to a potential sign-and-trade deal that would send forward Jonathan Kuminga to the Sacramento Kings, according to Sam Amick of The Athletic.

Because salary-matching rules would require one of those players to be involved, negotiations are effectively on hold. Golden State currently expects Kuminga to be back for the 2025/26 campaign, though the sides still have until his October 1 qualifying-offer deadline to revisit trade possibilities.

The 6’8” forward missed a large portion of the 2024/25 season with injuries but averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists across 47 games when healthy.

Interest from Phoenix

Duane Rankin of The Arizona Republic reports that both the Warriors and the Phoenix Suns have explored a Kuminga sign-and-trade scenario, but an agreement remains unlikely. Kuminga, 22, views the Suns as a place where he could secure a substantial, consistent role alongside All-Star guard Devin Booker. Phoenix has spoken with Booker’s agent, Aaron Turner, yet Golden State is not impressed with the assets the Suns have put on the table.

Green’s fit in the desert

Gerald Bourguet of PHNX Sports notes that newly acquired guard Jalen Green must sharpen three facets of his game to thrive next to Booker. Green averaged a team-high 21.0 points and 3.4 assists last season for the 52-30 Houston Rockets and offers intriguing upside as a secondary creator and scorer in the Suns’ backcourt.

Lakers update

Elsewhere in the Pacific Division, Lakers forward LeBron James is reportedly supportive of Los Angeles shifting its roster-building focus toward younger star Luka Doncic.
