The Golden State Warriors have expressed interest in acquiring Brooklyn Nets forward Michael Porter Jr., but the franchise remains reluctant to surrender significant draft assets, according to a report from Dalton Johnson of NBC Sports Bay Area.

Team executives have maintained a cautious stance toward dealing future picks, a philosophy that has shaped trade discussions for several seasons. That restraint is influencing current talks ahead of the Feb. 5 trade deadline.

Another variable is forward Jonathan Kuminga, who becomes trade-eligible on Jan. 15. League observers consider the 21-year-old a likely outgoing piece should Golden State pursue a major move. Kuminga signed a two-year, $48.5 million contract last offseason that includes a team option for the second season, a structure viewed around the league as flexible for a potential new club.

Porter, 27, arrived in Brooklyn from the Denver Nuggets last summer and is averaging 25.9 points while shooting nearly 40 percent from three-point range for an 11-25 Nets squad mired near the bottom of the Eastern Conference. Without a no-trade clause, the 6-foot-10 scorer is considered available if Brooklyn receives sufficient value.

Golden State enters Monday at 21-19, eighth in the Western Conference, and has not advanced past the second round of the playoffs since winning the 2022 NBA title. With Stephen Curry still defining the franchise’s competitive window, the front office is weighing whether Porter’s scoring punch justifies the required package.

For now, Brooklyn is open to offers, but the Warriors’ willingness to meet the asking price remains uncertain.
