Golden State Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. said he anticipates head coach Steve Kerr will remain with the team beyond this season, despite Kerr coaching on an expiring contract.

During an appearance on The TK Show with journalist Tim Kawakami, Dunleavy was asked directly about Kerr’s future. “I don’t see why not,” he replied when questioned about the coach’s potential return. “Steve has mentioned wanting to get to the end of the season and figure it out. I think things, for him, are going well.

The Warriors’ front office has not prioritized contract talks while the 2023-24 campaign is in progress, Dunleavy added. “The focus internally between myself, Joe [Lacob], the players and Steve has really been on getting this thing right the rest of the season. Obviously, on a personal level, love having Steve here. I would project that he’s our coach next year. But a lot of it is in his court.

Kerr, currently in his 12th season with Golden State, has previously indicated he is comfortable postponing any decision until after the season concludes. In December he told The Athletic’s Zena Keita, “I will never leave Steph Curry.

Speculation about the coaching staff has persisted. In January, The Ringer’s Logan Murdock reported that some Warriors assistants quietly explored other opportunities around the league. Owner Joe Lacob recently echoed Dunleavy’s stance, telling Kawakami, “Really, it’s up to him. We’ll figure it out later.

Kerr’s contract situation remains unresolved, but the organization continues to operate as though he will lead the Warriors again in 2024-25.
