Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga has been diagnosed with a bone bruise in his left knee, the team announced Friday after an MRI.
The 23-year-old hyperextended the knee during the second quarter of Thursday’s loss in Dallas and did not return. He will miss Sunday’s matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves, and the Warriors will set a timetable for reevaluation in the coming days.
Kuminga, the No. 7 pick in the 2021 draft, requested a trade from Golden State on Jan. 15 after spending more than a month outside the rotation. He returned to action following Jimmy Butler’s season-ending right ACL tear and posted 30 points on 10-of-13 shooting, six rebounds, four assists and three steals across two games before suffering the injury. For the season, he is averaging 12.1 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 23.8 minutes over 20 appearances.
Steph Curry Cleared to Play
Head coach Steve Kerr said Saturday that Stephen Curry experienced soreness in his right knee and was initially listed as questionable for Sunday’s contest. After testing the knee during pre-game warmups, Curry was cleared and will be available, according to The Athletic’s Nick Friedell.
Additional Injury Updates
Kerr added that De’Anthony Melton and Al Horford will dress Sunday but will sit out Monday’s rematch with Minnesota.
