Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga has formally asked to be traded now that he is eligible to be moved, according to Anthony Slater and Shams Charania of ESPN.

The request had been expected for months. The No. 7 pick in the 2021 draft explored sign-and-trade possibilities with the Kings and Suns while he was a restricted free agent last summer, but neither club had the cap room to extend an offer sheet beyond the Warriors’ price range, and Golden State did not receive a proposal it considered sufficient.

Kuminga ultimately returned to the Warriors on a two-year, $46.8 million contract that contains a team option for the 2026/27 season. He opened the current campaign in the starting lineup, shifted to the second unit in November and later dropped out of the rotation entirely. The fifth-year forward has not appeared in a game since December 18.

Golden State can now weigh trade scenarios involving Kuminga as the market heats up ahead of the NBA’s deadline.
