Two-time NBA All-Star Victor Oladipo is using a preseason tour with the Guangzhou Loong Lions to stay on the radar of U.S. teams while he waits for a new contract offer.
The 33-year-old guard has turned heads during the Chinese club’s exhibition swing through the United States, posting 20 points and five steals against the San Antonio Spurs and following with 24 points and five assists versus the Los Angeles Clippers. Oladipo told HoopsHype’s Sam Yip he will “reassess” his options when the trip concludes later this month.
“People show interest, but again, with the new CBA, with contracts and stuff, people can only do so much,” Oladipo said. “When the opportunity presents itself, I’ll be ready for it.”
European scouts watched Oladipo work out in Las Vegas over the summer, yet he reiterated that the NBA remains his priority. “I’m definitely one of the best. So that’s where I belong — the three letters: N-B-A,” he added with a laugh.
Giles and Wilson head back to China
Harry Giles, the No. 20 pick in the 2017 draft, has signed with the Jiangsu Dragons after logging 165 NBA games across four franchises and spending last season with the Shanxi Loongs. Fellow 2017 first-rounder D.J. Wilson, selected three spots earlier, is joining the Jilin Northeast Tigers following a season with the Shanghai Sharks.
Lauvergne joins champion club in Kuwait
Former Denver Nuggets and San Antonio Spurs forward Joffrey Lauvergne has reached a deal with Kuwait SC, according to agent Misko Raznatovic. The 6-11 French veteran has played the last seven seasons in Turkey, Lithuania and France; Kuwait SC enters the new campaign as the reigning champion of the country’s top league.
