Las Vegas sportsbooks have opened the Washington Wizards’ 2024-25 regular-season win total at 21.5, underscoring low external expectations after a difficult year in the nation’s capital.

Washington finished last season 18-64, posting a minus-12.4 point differential that ranked as the NBA’s worst in 2023-24 and the third-worst in league history, according to analyst John Hollinger of The Athletic.

The roster has changed markedly since then. The team’s three most productive players by most statistical measures—Jonas Valanciunas, Jordan Poole and Malcolm Brogdon—are no longer on the roster. Remaining veterans CJ McCollum and Khris Middleton are both on expiring contracts, making them potential trade or buyout candidates before the February deadline.

Washington’s rebuild now centers on a group of young prospects expected to receive extensive minutes: Cam Whitmore, Alex Sarr, Tre Johnson, Bilal Coulibaly and Bub Carrington. While the organization hopes that playing time accelerates their development, none of the five has yet led an NBA team.

With the franchise prioritizing player growth and future draft positioning, Las Vegas oddsmakers remain skeptical that the Wizards can clear the 21.5-win bar. For now, Washington appears headed for another season focused more on long-term progress than short-term results.
