Tyrese Maxey Set to Rejoin 76ers Lineup in Charlotte

The Philadelphia 76ers will have All-Star guard Tyrese Maxey back on the floor Saturday night when they visit the Charlotte Hornets, the club announced on social media.
Maxey, sidelined for the past 10 games because of a tendon injury in his right pinkie finger, was initially scheduled for a three-week reevaluation on March 10. His clearance arrives slightly ahead of that timeline.
The seventh-place Sixers enter the matchup at 40-33, one game out of fifth in the Eastern Conference and just 1½ games clear of 10th-place Miami as they try to avoid the play-in tournament.
Before the injury, Maxey was producing a career-best season, leading Philadelphia with 29.0 points per game while topping the NBA in minutes (38.3) and steals (2.0). The fourth-year guard is also averaging 6.7 assists and shooting .461/.373/.893, forming a potent backcourt with rookie VJ Edgecombe.
Tonight’s appearance will be Maxey’s 62nd of the season, leaving him three games short of the 65-game minimum required for postseason awards. The 2023-24 Most Improved Player is considered a strong All-NBA candidate after finishing tied for 10th in last year’s Clutch Player voting.
Maxey’s return moves Quentin Grimes back to a reserve role after 12 consecutive starts, and it is expected to trim minutes for Cameron Payne and Justin Edwards.
