Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton revealed on Monday that he has been battling facial shingles for roughly two months, a virus he says has caused eye problems, visible rashes and unexpected weight gain.
Speaking during the team’s end-of-season media session in Indianapolis, the 26-year-old two-time All-Star explained that the medication prescribed for the condition has not eased his symptoms and has contributed to the added pounds that fans recently noticed.
“It’s obviously caused me to gain weight and look a little bigger,” Haliburton said, noting that the outbreak initially closed one of his eyes and left lesions across his face. He added that itching prompted him to start wearing glasses to keep his hands away from his face and eyes, and that he has even lost part of an eyebrow.
Haliburton missed the entire 2025-26 campaign while rehabbing the Achilles injury he suffered in Game 7 of last season’s NBA Finals. Without their starting point guard, the Pacers finished 19-63, the league’s second-worst record.
Indiana expects Haliburton to be fully recovered from both the Achilles tear and shingles in time for the opening of the 2026-27 season. The franchise also owns a 14 percent chance at the No. 1 pick in the upcoming draft, tied with Washington and Brooklyn for the best lottery odds.
