Both Trae Young and the Washington Wizards are willing to explore a new contract this offseason, according to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne.
Young, 27, is earning $45.9 million this season and holds a $48.9 million player option for 2026-27. Declining that option would allow him to enter unrestricted free agency in the summer of 2026.
League sources told DallasHoopsJournal that Washington has considered a three-year deal worth roughly $120 million. Interest is described as mutual, and Young’s representatives already worked closely with the Wizards’ front office to complete his recent move to the nation’s capital.
Washington acquired the four-time All-Star from the Atlanta Hawks in a trade that sent CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert to Atlanta. Young has yet to debut for the Wizards because of a lingering quad injury.
Over his career, the guard owns averages of 25.2 points and 9.8 assists per game. In 10 appearances with Atlanta this season, he posted 19.3 points and 8.9 assists while the Hawks went 2-8.
“I came into a kind of similar spot that I did when I was a rookie, but I’m 27 now,” Young told ESPN. “I’m more mature now. I’m young enough where I can relate, but old enough I got enough experience. So I’m excited to be around some of these young guys.”
