Former Memphis Grizzlies guard Tony Allen was arrested Wednesday in Poinsett County, Arkansas, after authorities reportedly found marijuana and cocaine during a traffic stop roughly 50 miles outside Memphis, the Associated Press reported via ESPN.
Police said Allen was carrying a package containing a leafy substance later identified as marijuana. A search of the vehicle, driven by William Hatton, turned up marijuana-related paraphernalia that Hatton claimed was his, according to Action News 5. Officers also located a cigarette box containing a substance later determined to be cocaine.
Allen, 39, is currently serving three years of supervised probation stemming from a 2023 federal health-insurance fraud case in which he pleaded guilty and was ordered to perform community service.
The six-time NBA All-Defensive Team selection spent seven seasons with Memphis from 2010/11 through 2016/17, helping establish the franchise’s “Grit and Grind” identity. The Grizzlies retired his No. 9 jersey after he reached the playoffs in six of those seven years.
