Former NBA forward Carlos Delfino has officially retired from professional basketball. The 43-year-old Argentine confirmed the decision on the “Doble Doble” podcast, marking the end of a career that began when the Detroit Pistons selected him 25th overall in the 2003 draft.
Delfino appeared in 507 NBA games over nine seasons with the Pistons, Toronto Raptors, Milwaukee Bucks and Houston Rockets, averaging 8.1 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists. After injuries curtailed his NBA run, he continued competing in Europe until 2023. Internationally, Delfino helped Argentina win Olympic gold in 2004 and bronze in 2008.
Thunder, Wolves Top Positional Depth Rankings
Law Murray of The Athletic evaluated all 30 NBA rosters by position. His rankings placed the Oklahoma City Thunder—led by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Cason Wallace—first at point guard. The Minnesota Timberwolves, featuring Anthony Edwards and Terrence Shannon Jr., led the shooting-guard group.
Other positional leaders included the Houston Rockets at small forward (Kevin Durant, Tari Eason), the Milwaukee Bucks at power forward (Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bobby Portis) and the Denver Nuggets at center (Nikola Jokic, Jonas Valanciunas).
Projected Eastern Conference Logjam
John Hollinger of The Athletic projects a tight race in the lower half of the Eastern Conference standings. He forecasts the Philadelphia 76ers to finish 10th with 37 wins, the Boston Celtics 11th with 36 wins and the Indiana Pacers 12th with 31 victories. Hollinger also highlights Philadelphia as one of the league’s most volatile teams in terms of potential outcomes.
Questions Surround 2025-26 Season
Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix outlined several key storylines for 2025-26, including whether Antetokounmpo will complete the season in Milwaukee, the influence of Desmond Bane on Orlando’s ascent and the possibility that playoff reseeding gains momentum amid continued Western Conference dominance.
International League Targets 2026 Launch
A proposed international basketball league remains on track for a 2026 debut, according to Ben Horney and Daniel Roberts of Front Office Sports. Maverick Carter, longtime business partner of LeBron James, is no longer involved. Investors still include tennis star Novak Djokovic and former WNBA standout Candace Parker.
