The Minnesota Timberwolves have released two-way center Jesse Edwards, according to Monday’s entry in the NBA transactions log.
The decision had been anticipated since early August and was effectively sealed when Edwards, 25, agreed last week to a one-year contract with Melbourne United of Australia’s National Basketball League. His departure leaves Minnesota with one open two-way slot; the other two are occupied by Rocco Zikarsky and Enrique Freeman.
Edwards joined Minnesota in July 2024 after going undrafted out of Syracuse and West Virginia. He appeared briefly in two NBA games, spending the bulk of his rookie season with the G League’s Iowa Wolves, where he averaged 11.9 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.9 blocks over 34 contests.
In late June, the 6-foot-11 center accepted a two-way qualifying offer that included an $85,300 partial guarantee. That figure will not be charged to the Timberwolves’ salary cap.
The team still awaits a decision from guard Tristen Newton, 24, who is expected to return on a two-way deal after splitting eight NBA appearances last season between Indiana and Minnesota.
