Timberwolves issue upbeat McDaniels update; Randle, Garnett also in the spotlight

Jaden McDaniels is on track to return for the Minnesota Timberwolves’ trip to Denver. The club upgraded the forward to probable for Thursday’s game against the Nuggets after he missed Tuesday’s matchup with the New York Knicks because of a left oblique contusion.

The 25-year-old is enjoying a breakout campaign, averaging career bests of 15.0 points and 2.6 assists. He is shooting 40.0% from three-point range and 86.8% at the free-throw line, complementing the defensive reputation that earned him All-Defensive Second Team honors in 2024.

Randle delivers late versus former team

Facing the Knicks on Tuesday, ex-New York forward Julius Randle scored just eight points on 3-for-11 shooting through three quarters before erupting for 17 points on 7-for-9 shooting in the fourth. After the game, Randle said any extra motivation he once felt against his former club has faded. “I’m over it,” he told The Athletic. “I had a great time in New York … but I’m happy to be here in Minnesota … I’m home.”

Garnett formally rejoins franchise

Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett has re-entered the organization as an ambassador, a move co-owners Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez pursued since their arrival. “Everywhere we went … all Minnesota Timberwolves fans wanted to know was, when is Kevin coming back into the organization?” Rodriguez said.

Earlier this week, reports indicated the Timberwolves have researched Hornets guard Collin Sexton as they weigh potential backcourt trade targets.
