The Minnesota Timberwolves announced a broad set of front-office and bench changes on September 11, 2025, promoting veteran scout Joe Connelly to vice president of player personnel and hiring Chris Hines as an assistant coach.

Connelly moves up after three seasons as the team’s director of scouting. Before arriving in Minnesota, he spent seven years with the Denver Nuggets in a variety of scouting and player-development roles.

Hines, entering his fourth year with the organization, shifts to a full-time assistant coaching position following a season as assistant coach/director of player development. He previously served the Timberwolves as a development coach.

Additional promotions and hires

The club detailed several other personnel changes:

  • Jeff Newton – assistant coach/director of player development. Newton begins his seventh season with the Timberwolves after working as an assistant coach last year.
  • James White – assistant coach/player development. White returns for a third season after two years as a player development assistant.
  • Dapo Adegbile – basketball strategy/analytics coordinator. Adegbile is in his fourth year with the franchise, most recently serving as strategy analyst.
  • Kelly McCarty – player development associate. McCarty joins the NBA club following two seasons as an assistant coach with the G League’s Iowa Wolves.

The Timberwolves did not disclose contract terms for any of the moves.
