MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Timberwolves believe recently signed forward Kyle Anderson can make an immediate difference down the stretch, head coach Chris Finch said this week.

Anderson, 32, joined the club on the buyout market after being released by the Memphis Grizzlies. Finch noted the veteran’s familiarity with Minnesota from his 2022-24 stint and said the Wolves will “put the ball in his hands” and “treat him like a point guard” for the final 20 regular-season games and the playoffs.

Salary-cap pressure pushed Anderson out of Minnesota in 2024, when he accepted a three-year, $27 million offer from Golden State. In the two seasons since, he was traded from the Warriors to Miami, then to Utah and finally to Memphis.

Anderson played 20 games for the Jazz earlier this season and acknowledged the difficulty of competing for a club more concerned with protecting its top-eight protected 2026 first-round pick than chasing a postseason berth. “Playing not to win a championship is tricky and tough, and I didn’t enjoy it,” he said, while praising Utah’s staff and players.

Dundon trims Hurricanes ownership ahead of Blazers purchase

Prospective Portland Trail Blazers buyer Tom Dundon agreed to sell a 12.5 percent stake in the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes at a $2.66 billion valuation, according to Sportico. The timing raises questions about whether the transaction is intended to provide additional liquidity as Dundon moves to finalize the Blazers acquisition in the coming weeks.

Thunder edge Knicks but lose two starters

The Oklahoma City Thunder collected their fourth straight win Wednesday, defeating the New York Knicks 103-100 on the second night of a road back-to-back. The victory came at a cost: guard Alex Caruso exited with a left hip contusion, and center Isaiah Hartenstein left with left calf tightness. Both were ruled out for the remainder of the game, and their status going forward is uncertain.
