The Oklahoma City Thunder confirmed Tuesday that first-round draft pick Thomas Sorber underwent surgery to repair a torn ACL in his right knee and will be sidelined for the entire 2025-26 NBA season.
The 19-year-old center, selected No. 15 overall in June, sustained the injury earlier this month. According to the club, doctors expect Sorber to make a full recovery in time for the 2026-27 campaign.
Before entering the draft, the 6-foot-11 Georgetown product averaged 14.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.5 steals and 2.0 blocks in his lone college season, which ended prematurely due to a separate foot issue.
Oklahoma City signed Sorber in July to a standard four-year rookie contract worth $22.5 million, with the first two seasons guaranteed.
This marks the second consecutive year the Thunder have lost a first-round pick to an ACL injury. Last season’s No. 12 selection, Nikola Topić, also missed his entire rookie year.
With Sorber unavailable, veterans Isaiah Hartenstein and Jaylin Williams headline a deep frontcourt rotation expected to absorb the minutes until the young big man makes his NBA debut.
