The Oklahoma City Thunder announced Tuesday that first-round pick Thomas Sorber underwent surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and will miss the entire 2025-26 season.
The procedure, performed earlier in the day, is expected to allow the 15th overall selection to make a full recovery in time for the 2026-27 campaign, according to the team’s public relations department.
Sorber, 19, averaged 14.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.5 steals and 2.0 blocks during his lone season at Georgetown. A left foot injury that required surgery sidelined him for the latter portion of the 2024-25 college schedule.
The 6-foot-10 center becomes the second consecutive Oklahoma City first-rounder to sit out an entire rookie year; last season’s No. 12 pick, Nikola Topic, also missed his debut campaign with an ACL injury.
Head coach Mark Daigneault’s club still has experienced front-court options in Isaiah Hartenstein and Jaylin Williams while Sorber recovers.
Contract Details
Sorber signed his rookie-scale deal in early July, a four-year pact worth $22.51 million. The agreement is fully guaranteed through the first two seasons and includes team options for years three and four.
