Veteran guard Terance Mann says his mid-season move from the Los Angeles Clippers to the Atlanta Hawks last February was the reset he needed, even though it lasted only 30 games. Now traded again—this time to the Brooklyn Nets as part of the three-team deal that brought Kristaps Porziņģis to Atlanta—the 28-year-old believes he is entering his prime and is ready to take on a leadership role.
“My stint in L.A. felt complete,” Mann told The Boston Globe. “Joining Atlanta was exciting, and the staff was great. Brooklyn is another fresh environment, and I’m one of the older guys now. I’m eager to show what I can do beyond the role I’ve had the past six seasons.”
Mann averaged 9.8 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists while shooting 54.1 percent from the field and 38.6 percent from three-point range in 22.7 minutes per game with the Hawks.
McCain Reflects on Yabusele’s Departure
Philadelphia 76ers guard Jared McCain told Sports Illustrated he lost both “a close friend and mentor” when forward Guerschon Yabusele signed with the New York Knicks in free agency. Yabusele supported McCain through a rookie season cut short by a torn meniscus in December. “He’s one of the best people I’ve been around,” McCain said. “I could go to him for anything, so I’m sad to see him leave.”
Knicks Monitoring Malik Beasley
A league source confirmed to the New York Post that the Knicks are interested in free-agent guard Malik Beasley now that he is no longer tied to a federal gambling investigation. New York, however, can offer only the veteran’s minimum, and Beasley is expected to receive richer proposals elsewhere.
Raptors 905 Acquire Jarkel Joiner’s Rights
The Raptors 905 sent their first-round pick in the upcoming G League draft to the College Park Skyhawks in exchange for the returning-player rights to guard Jarkel Joiner, according to Sportsnet.
The Nets open training camp in early October, giving Mann his first chance to work extensively with Brooklyn’s young roster.
