Front offices around the NBA are discreetly gearing up for the possibility that the Milwaukee Bucks could one day listen to offers for Giannis Antetokounmpo, even as the two-time MVP continues to say publicly that he wants to stay in Milwaukee, according to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.
League executives cited by Fischer describe a scenario in which Antetokounmpo’s own preferences may dictate the trade market more than rival bids. The 31-year-old forward is in the midst of one of his most efficient campaigns, averaging nearly 29 points per game while shooting better than 43 percent from three-point range. He becomes eligible for a contract extension in 2026, a key date that clubs are already factoring into their long-range strategies.
Knicks Viewed as a Prime Destination
Several executives believe the New York Knicks could sit atop Antetokounmpo’s wish list if he were ever made available, Fischer reports. The superstar reportedly wrestled with the lure of New York last summer, and the city’s raucous, playoff-style street celebrations have left a lasting impression on him.
While the Knicks are monitoring the situation, team officials are said to be operating as though no move is imminent. Around the league, however, the expectation is that New York would not need to make an aggressive sales pitch should Milwaukee decide to entertain offers.
Heat Keep Options Open
The Miami Heat have also remained in the conversation. Antetokounmpo’s representatives have examined how playing in income-tax-free Florida could boost his long-term earnings, according to Fischer. Miami’s roster decisions have fueled speculation, including the choice not to include rookie big man Kelel Ware in discussions for Kevin Durant this summer, signaling that the Heat may be saving assets for a larger target.
Miami has additionally explored backcourt upgrades and has internally discussed Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant while tracking his recovery from a calf injury. Fischer notes the Heat have shown some willingness to move Andrew Wiggins in the right deal, and the absence of a Tyler Herro extension continues to feed trade chatter.
Taken together, the Knicks and Heat are viewed as early clubs to watch if the Bucks ever reverse course and open the door to offers for Antetokounmpo, while Miami also weighs nearer-term options involving Morant.
