Suns unlikely to pursue major moves at trade deadline

Front-office executives in Phoenix say the Suns are prepared to keep their roster intact as the NBA trade deadline approaches, according to comments made to The Arizona Republic.

Club officials told the newspaper they are satisfied with the team’s chemistry and see no need to make a deal unless an unexpected offer “blows them away.” Phoenix enters play at 26-17, squarely in the Western Conference playoff race after an offseason that saw the organization part with Kevin Durant and waive Bradley Beal.

The Suns are also eager to evaluate guard Jalen Green, who is expected to return Tuesday after missing nearly two and a half months because of a hamstring injury. Internally, Green is being viewed as a late-season addition rather than an expendable piece.

While the core is likely to stay put, league sources indicated veteran center Nick Richards could be moved before the deadline. Richards is on an expiring contract, and shedding his salary would help the Suns remain just above the luxury-tax threshold—an area owner Mat Ishbia is monitoring with an eye toward future financial flexibility.

Conversations about bigger transactions—such as renewing interest in Golden State forward Jonathan Kuminga or acquiring a long-term power forward—are expected to be revisited during the offseason, sources added.
