The Phoenix Suns have finalized a multiyear contract with free-agent forward Haywood Highsmith, agent Jerry Dianis told ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Charania reported that several playoff contenders, including the Los Angeles Lakers and Philadelphia 76ers, pursued Highsmith before the 29-year-old elected to join Phoenix.
Highsmith has not appeared in a game this season after undergoing surgery in August to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee and experiencing a setback during rehabilitation in October. According to Dianis, the Baltimore native is healthy and had been aiming for a Feb. 11 return in the 2025-26 campaign before being waived by the Brooklyn Nets.
The 6-foot-5 combo forward averaged 6.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 0.9 steals in 22.7 minutes over 140 games during the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons. He spent four years with the Miami Heat before being traded to Brooklyn last offseason.
Recognized for his versatile defense, Highsmith has also developed a reliable perimeter shot, converting 38.8% of his three-point attempts over the past two seasons.
Arizona Sports 98.7’s John Gambadoro confirmed the signing and noted that the second year of the deal is partially guaranteed. The Suns had an opening on their 15-man standard roster, so no corresponding move is required.
