Phoenix — The Phoenix Suns have hired longtime NBA executive Ed Stefanski as a front-office adviser, according to a report from Marc Stein of The Stein Line.
Stefanski, the father of Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski, joins Phoenix shortly after the team named former Cleveland Cavaliers assistant Jordan Ott its new head coach. The move strengthens a recent pipeline between Phoenix and Cleveland sports figures.
A 10th-round draft pick by the Philadelphia 76ers in 1976, Stefanski transitioned quickly from the court to the front office. He spent 1999–2007 with the New Jersey Nets, progressing from director of scouting to senior vice president of basketball operations before becoming general manager. He later led basketball operations for the 76ers for four seasons and worked as executive vice president of basketball operations for the Toronto Raptors from 2011–2013.
Stefanski also held positions with the Memphis Grizzlies and, beginning in 2018, served as senior adviser for the Detroit Pistons, guiding multiple regime changes. His work in Detroit earned him a third-place vote for NBA Executive of the Year in 2020.
Details of Stefanski’s role in Phoenix have not been disclosed, but he is expected to provide strategic input as the Suns shape their roster and front-office structure under new ownership and leadership.
