Phoenix Suns forward Dillon Brooks was taken into custody early Friday on suspicion of driving under the influence after a traffic stop in Scottsdale, Arizona.
According to reports from TMZ and The Arizona Republic, officers pulled Brooks over for traffic violations at about 1 a.m. He was formally charged roughly 30 minutes later, transported to Scottsdale City Jail, booked, and released around 3:30 a.m.
TMZ noted that the 27-year-old was respectful and cooperative throughout the encounter with law enforcement.
The Suns acknowledged the incident in a brief statement: “We are aware of the situation involving Dillon Brooks and are gathering more information. We have no further comment at this time.”
The NBA typically waits for legal proceedings to conclude before considering disciplinary action, making any potential league response uncertain for now.
Brooks is in his first season with Phoenix after arriving last summer in the blockbuster deal that brought Kevin Durant to the Suns. He has averaged 20.9 points over 50 games but has been sidelined since fracturing his left hand last month; he is not expected to return until late in the season.
