Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, entering the final season of his deal, said he does not expect to address a new contract until the 2025 off-season.
“I don’t anticipate any negotiation during the season,” Kerr told reporters, according to ESPN’s Anthony Slater. “I’m not the slightest bit concerned about it. I just think it makes perfect sense for all of us to wait.”
Kerr, 59, is set to begin his 12th year on the Warriors’ bench. He is working under a two-year, $35 million extension signed during the 2023-24 campaign. Despite the uncertainty beyond 2024-25, he insisted his motivation remains unchanged. “I love my job. I love what I’m doing every day. Hopefully I’m here for another few years,” he said.
The coach pointed to the organization’s long-standing relationships as a reason to delay talks. “I’m so aligned with general manager Mike Dunleavy and owner Joe Lacob,” Kerr noted. “There’s no reason for discussion or concern. Let’s just see how it is at the end of the year.”
Franchise cornerstones Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler III and Draymond Green each have two seasons remaining on their contracts. Curry and Green are described as strong supporters of Kerr’s leadership, according to Slater.
