The Golden State Warriors will be without Stephen Curry for Sunday’s matchup in Atlanta and Monday’s contest in Dallas, the club announced. The star guard is expected to resume practice within the next few days as he continues to recover from patellofemoral pain syndrome in his right knee.
Curry, 38, has not played since Jan. 30. A Saturday evaluation showed “good progress,” according to the team, which noted that the two-time MVP has increased the intensity of his individual on-court workouts. He will be examined again when the Warriors return home on Tuesday.
Team officials remain cautiously optimistic that Curry could be back in the lineup before the end of March. Improving conditioning and ensuring he can run and jump without discomfort remain top priorities.
Impact on the Season
When healthy, Curry is averaging 27.2 points per game while shooting 46.8% from the field and 39.1% from three-point range. Golden State owns a 23-16 record with him on the floor but has slipped to 10-21 without him, falling to 10th place in the Western Conference standings.
Moody Also Progressing
The Warriors also updated the status of Moses Moody, who has missed nine games after spraining his right wrist on Mar. 2. The second-year guard is taking part in individual drills and is expected to begin live action soon. Like Curry, he will be reevaluated after the team’s road trip. Moody said Friday that high-intensity workouts still cause some wrist pain.
Golden State wraps up its current trip Monday in Dallas before heading back to the Bay Area for further assessments.
