Stephen Curry said he still plans to return to the floor this year, even after more than six weeks on the sideline with what the Golden State Warriors describe as runner’s knee.
Speaking Sunday night at Madison Square Garden following the Warriors’ loss to the New York Knicks, the 38-year-old guard dismissed the idea of shutting it down for 2025-26. “If we have stuff to play for, we play,” Curry told reporters. “I’m working to get back.”
Curry has not played since leaving a January 30 game in Detroit. He recently resumed individual workouts, but the club announced Wednesday that he will miss at least 10 more days while the knee continues to be evaluated.
The two-time MVP acknowledged that some fans have urged him to sit out the rest of the season. He said any decision will hinge on medical clearance and whether he can compete safely without risking short- or long-term damage. “We’d love to see guys in a playoff series and take a swing,” he added. “That’s who we are.”
Golden State accompanied Curry on its current road trip, which features five more games in the next seven days, starting Monday night in Washington. At 32-35, the Warriors remain in the Western Conference play-in mix but are just ahead of the 10th-place Portland Trail Blazers.
Head coach Steve Kerr said before Sunday’s game that Curry’s recovery is “trending in the right direction,” though it remains unclear how the knee will respond to continued treatment. “I’m the luckiest coach in the league to watch him play,” Kerr said. “We miss him.”
