Golden State will be without Stephen Curry for its upcoming three-city swing, head coach Steve Kerr told reporters Tuesday night. The star guard will remain in the Bay Area while the Warriors face the 76ers on Thursday, the Cavaliers on Saturday and the Bulls on Sunday.
“It just makes perfect sense for him to stay home with (director of sports medicine and performance) Rick Celebrini, get the rehab done here, get his work in and hopefully be ready for Minnesota next Friday,” Kerr said.
The 37-year-old exited last Wednesday’s loss in Houston with a quad contusion and muscle strain and has already missed contests against New Orleans and Oklahoma City. Golden State will have four full days off after the road trip before hosting the Timberwolves on December 12, the earliest realistic target for Curry’s return.
Tuesday’s 124-118 defeat to the Thunder also featured the loss of Jimmy Butler, who left at halftime with left knee soreness. Butler had been listed as questionable before the game because of a glute contusion, and his availability for Thursday in Philadelphia remains uncertain. “I didn’t even know he was out until I was drawing up a play with a minute to go before the second half,” Kerr said.
Golden State sits at 11-11 with a +0.7 net rating. The club is +6.3 when Butler plays, +3.6 when Curry is on the floor and +10.6 when both share the court.
