The San Antonio Spurs are set to appoint Australian men’s national team acting coach Jacob Chance as the new head coach of their G League affiliate, the Austin Spurs, according to a report by HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto.
Chance will take over for Scott King, the reigning G League Coach of the Year, who has been elevated to an assistant coaching position on Mitch Johnson’s staff with the NBA club.
In addition to his duties with Australia’s national program, Chance previously served as an assistant coach for Melbourne United in the National Basketball League.
Last season, Austin posted a 22-12 record before falling to the eventual champion Stockton Kings in the Western Conference finals.
Johnson heads into his first full season guiding the Spurs after succeeding longtime coach Gregg Popovich, who led San Antonio for 29 years.
