San Antonio interim head coach Mitch Johnson briefly reinserted Stephon Castle midway through the fourth quarter Saturday in Milwaukee so the second-year guard could grab one more rebound and complete his fourth triple-double of the season. Castle, 21, needed just 24 seconds to secure the board, finishing the Spurs’ 132-100 victory with 22 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds in 29 minutes.
“I knew I needed one more before I got subbed out, so coach put me back in there,” Castle said postgame. The staff has pressed the former lottery pick to rebound more consistently; he is averaging 5.1 per game after recording 3.7 as a rookie.
Bench spark from Keldon Johnson
Keldon Johnson added 16 points, giving the forward 50 double-figure performances off the bench this season. He accomplished the same milestone last year and is considered a leading Sixth Man of the Year candidate. Johnson also matched a season high with five assists.
Fox and Kornet return
De’Aaron Fox and Luke Kornet, both sidelined Wednesday in Memphis with minor injuries, were back in the rotation. Each logged 21 minutes; Fox posted 12 points and six assists, while Kornet registered two points, one rebound and a steal.
Wembanyama’s warning materializes
Center Victor Wembanyama, who vowed after France’s silver-medal finish at the 2024 Olympics that opponents would “be worried in a couple of years,” is backing up that statement with an MVP-caliber 2025-26 campaign, further strengthening his award case earlier in the week.
