The San Antonio Spurs are adding former NBA forward Rashard Lewis to their staff as a player development coach under assistant Mitch Johnson, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
Lewis, 44, enjoyed a 16-year playing career highlighted by stints with the Seattle SuperSonics and Orlando Magic. He was an integral part of the 2008-09 Magic squad that reached the NBA Finals alongside Dwight Howard, Jameer Nelson and Hedo Turkoglu under coach Stan Van Gundy.
After stops with the Washington Wizards and Miami Heat, Lewis retired in 2014. Scotto noted that he later served as an assistant coach with the Detroit Pistons.
San Antonio hopes the addition of Lewis will bolster a roster featuring a healthy Victor Wembanyama and DeAaron Fox, along with reigning Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle and No. 2 overall pick Dylan Harper.
The Spurs finished last season 34-48 and missed the postseason. Johnson is preparing for his first full campaign as head coach.
